Why I Love Shopping at The Metro Stores

My earliest memories of shopping are rooted at The Metro Stores.

As a little girl, I remember going to Metro Colon with my grandfather, always stopping by Ding Qua Qua along the way. I would also accompany my mom when she would do the groceries at Metro Ayala Center, usually on Sundays—her lone day off in a week.

While I was allowed the occasional indulgence, I learned about the value of a great deal early on. I also began to associate The Metro Stores as a place where I can get my money’s worth, and would shop there by myself when I grew up. It’s become a pillar of sorts in my life, a True North for when I need to get something because it almost always has things I need to buy, and I knew exactly where to find them.

So yes, to say I was devastated when Metro Ayala Center was hit by a fire in January 2018 is an understatement.

But that’s all in the past, and now that it’s back and better than ever is worth celebrating—especially as the Metro Stores celebrates its 39th anniversary this weekend!

These days, I don’t exactly do the groceries myself. Credits go to my aunt, herself a stickler for bargains, for keeping our pantry stocked. At the height of the quarantine lockdowns, with our nearest supermarkets separated by the border, Metro Ayala Center became her go-to grocery because it was a one-stop shop for everything our household needed.

That’s not to say I don’t go by myself on occasion, because your girl has wants and needs too (and so does her dog). Recently I paid a visit to Metro Ayala Center’s grocery to check out their anniversary offerings, and it reminded me of why I love shopping at The Metro Stores.

The Metro Stores are always well-stocked

As I mentioned, Metro Ayala Center was our household’s choice for groceries over the quarantine period because it saved my aunt from numerous trips to other places just to check a lot of items off our shopping list. It was a problem early on because of people hoarding things during lockdowns, yet The Metro Stores managed to keep up with the demand.

Occasionally, I also hit up Super Metro Mambaling. It’s nearer to our house, on my way to and from work, so it’s a convenient choice when I need to get something but I’m not in the uptown area.

The Metro Stores have a wide array of offerings

Besides being well-stocked, The Metro Stores also has products from a vast range of categories. They have fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, canned goods, baking ingredients, local and international snacks, liquor, toiletries, cleaning supplies, party needs, pet stuff—and that’s just the supermarket!

Venture to the other levels and you’ll also find hardware, appliances, school supplies, workout equipment, men’s, women’s, and children’s fashion; and more. While this holds very true for Metro Ayala Center, I find that Super Metro Mambaling is also diverse in this aspect, even with a smaller selection. Truly a one-stop destination for everything one could want and need.

The Metro Stores continuously runs great deals

The Metro Stores are celebrating their 39th anniversary the way they know best: By having a sale! There are so many promotions that make shopping so much fun, from discounts to buy one take one deals and even free gifts!

Here are some noteworthy bargains to check out when you hit the supermarket this weekend:

For their anniversary sale, Metro Supermarket is also offering free gifts for Metro Rewards and Metro Business Member cardholders. For a minimum single-receipt of Php 3,500 (MRC) or Php 5,000 (MBC), get two 1L bottles of West Coast vegetable oil, or a pack of Savers Select 3-ply tissues, or 3kg of rice.

It’s also worth noting that outside of their anniversary, you would find there are always great deals happening at The Metro Stores.

Shop at any of The Metro Stores from October 14-17, 2021 to enjoy their anniversary sale. Price and availability of items may vary per store. They also offer pick-up and deliveries online. Follow them on social media at Facebook and Instagram.
